The Delta Sigma Theta- Texarkana Alumnae Chapter presented a $1,000 check to the Texarkana College Foundation today during a check presentation ceremony in the lobby of the Texarkana College Nelson Administration Building. Carolyn Moore, local chapter president, said the gift will be used for student scholarships at Texarkana College.

“Delta Sigma Theta was founded on Christian principles to promote academic excellence and provide assistance to those in need,” Moore said. “Our hope is that today’s gift will help enhance the educational opportunities for area students by providing scholarship funds.”

Moore said the local chapter currently has 63 members who help raise funds year-round through special events and projects.

“The money we raise from our community— goes back into our community,” said Moore. “We contribute thousands of dollars every year to help fund scholarships and educational opportunities.”

Texarkana College president, James Henry Russell, received the check on behalf of TC Foundation and thanked the members for the generous contribution.

“Today’s gift from Delta Sigma Theta Alumnae Chapter will help TC build a college-going culture in our region,” said Russell. “The sorority’s purpose aligns with TC’s mission and goals. We are so grateful to have the support of this dynamic chapter to help students earn a college degree or credential to ensure brighter futures for themselves and their families.”
