A Texas-side man allegedly struck two police cruisers in an attempt to escape custody early Sunday morning.

Texarkana, Texas Police Officer Aaron Wafford stopped a vehicle for speeding in the 900 block of College Drive at 8:37 a.m. Sunday, February 1.

Officers became suspicious when the driver of the vehicle, 35-year-old Jerome Washington, was unable to accurately provide his date of birth. Washington then fled the scene in his vehicle. While attempting to elude officers, he lost control and struck a police cruiser driven by Officer Darren Jones.

Officers continued the pursuit to the 4100 block of Main Street, where Washington exited his vehicle and fled on foot and in doing so left his vehicle rolling forward where it struck a second police car. Washington was tracked to a residence in the 4100 block of Texas Boulevard where he was located and arrested. None of the officers involved were injured.

Washington was charged with multiple offenses including: Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer; Evading Arrest; Fail to Identify as a Fugitive; and a Theft Under $1,500 with Two Prior Convictions. The Aggravated Assault charge carries a maximum sentence of five to 99 years or life in prison and a ten thousand dollar fine. His bond was set by Judge Gibson Hadaway at $100,000.
