Texarkana Farmers Market to Host Best Salsa Contest

Are you ready to taste some great local Salsa?

The Texarkana, Texas Farmers’ Market will host its annual Best Salsa in the Ark-La-Tex Contest this Saturday July 28, from 7:30 to 11:00AM at 305 Texas Boulevard. This Saturday will be the last market of the 2018 Summer season.

Market manager Holden Fleming invites everyone to participate in the contest, by making salsa, or coming to the market to taste test.

“The public is encouraged to enter their best salsa recipe into one of 6 categories; mild, medium, hot, smokin’ hot, specialty, and a special children’s category for participants 13 and under.” Fleming said. “To enter, simply bring four pints of salsa to the Farmers’ Market the morning of the event.”

Salsa registration starts at 7:30 Saturday morning and free tastings will be available at 8:30 and conclude at 10:30.  Winners for each category will be announced at 11:00. Each categories’ winner will receive a prize courtesy of the Texarkana, Texas Farmers’ Market.

Along with the salsa contest, local vendors will be on hand selling fruits and vegetables, arts and crafts, and an assortment of other goods. With live local music to keep things moving, and chalk and games for children, this event is sure to be fun for market-goers of all ages.

Remarking on this year’s Market, Fleming said, “This has been a wonderful year with more vendors than we’ve ever had before. We’ve really enjoyed seeing the Market grow and want to invite everyone out as a thank you for helping the Market be everything that it can be!”

The Texarkana, Texas Farmers' Market is an open-air market in historic downtown Texarkana that provides an avenue for local vendors to sell their products while promoting healthy, locally grown food.
