Here is what is happening at the Texarkana Arkansas School District this week.

Two Arkansas High School students, Patrick McKerlie and Nicholas Smart played in the Arkansas School Band Orchestra Association’s (ASBOA) All-State Orchestra concert last Saturday.

Both students auditioned for their seats on February 8th at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, AR. Additionally, both students rehearsed for two days in Hot Springs, AR with a world-class conductor.

Patrick’s high score earned him a seat in the All-State Chamber Orchestra. He rehearsed with this select group on February 19th and presented a concert at the Hot Springs Convention Center on February 20th. Both students are members of the Arkansas High School Orchestra and Texarkana Youth Symphony Orchestra. Pictured l-r: Patrick McKerlie and Nicholas Smart.

Eighth-grade students at North Heights Junior High participated in the regional level National History Day competition in Southwest Arkansas. The students wrote and performed a skit titled Cup of Controversy which focused on the role that specific women like Debora Sampson, Pocahontas, and Nellie Bly have played in history.

The North Heights Junior High team was awarded 1st Place in the junior division performance category. The students will go on to compete at the State National History Day competitions in Conway, AR in April. Pictured l-r: Jackson Davis, Deborah Dillard, Arianna Thompson, and Savannah Pascarella.­
