The Texas A&M University-Texarkana Veterans Services office and Student Veterans Association will celebrate “More than Just a Day” during the week of November 7-11 in honor of the nation’s veterans and active-duty military.
Veterans Day is always observed on Nov. 11 with speeches and parades across the U.S. The holiday began as Armistice Day on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I. There are several events planned for the Texarkana area on Wednesday Nov. 11, to honor our local veterans.
Memorial Day is about more than just cookouts, picnics, water fun, and a day off from school or work. It is about honoring our service men and women who have died while serving our country, and to remember those who served proudly and have since passed on.
The war in Iraq took many prisoners. Some of them were the families and citizens caught in the middle of the fray. But others were the men and women who served in the U.S. armed forces and returned home different people, changed from who they were when they first went overseas.
