Skateboard enthusiasts will be excited to hear that a skate park is coming to Texarkana.

The Texarkana, Texas City Council unanimously approved a resolution Monday night to authorize City Manager John Whitson to enter into a contract with American Ramp Company of Joplin, Mo., for the design, equipment, and construction of a skateboard park. This park will be built using Community Development Block Grant funds that have already been allocated for the 2016 Fiscal Year budget.

The park, estimated to cost $244, 500, will be located next to Kidtopia between West 3rd Street and Broad Street. According to Parks and Recreation Director Robby Robertson, the proposal has been discussed with the community during the City’s CDBG public hearing process.

“This is a great opportunity for the city to provide yet another space for recreation and activity for our residents,” Robertson said. “We are very pleased to have the ability to build the skateboard park without using any general funds for the project.”

Construction is expected to begin later this spring.
