A man was shot dead before 8:20 a.m. on Thursday, April 9, near the intersection of West 16th and Crockett Streets. Police have a suspect in custody.

Texarkana, Texas police responded to an early-morning shooting call in the 2000 block of West 16th Street. The victim of the shooting was deceased when officers arrived, said Sgt. Mike Jones with the Texarkana, Texas Police Department.

"The suspect was located by officers walking away from the area and taken to Bi-State Criminal Justice Center for questioning. The cause of the shooting is not yet known," he said.

The suspect was arrested without incident, according to police.
