Investigation Continues into Weekend Stabbing in Texarkana
The Texarkana, Ark., Police Department continues to investigate a weekend stabbing that left one person dead and another in custody.
At approximately 5:30PM on Saturday, police were called to the Salvation Army at 316 Hazel St. in response to a stabbing. While investigating the call, officers learned that a man, who was reported by witnesses to have just stabbed another man in the chest, had left the scene walking north. Another witness followed the suspect from the scene and said that the man was walking north on State Line Avenue and had crossed into Texarkana, Texas.
Texarkana, Ark., Police responded and located Billy Joe Mitchell, 43. With the assistance of Texarkana, Texas Police, Mitchell was taken into custody after evidence was found that linked him to the crime.
Lifenet paramedics and TAPD officers rendered aid to the stabbing victim who was transported to Wadley Regional Medical Center where he later died of his injury.
