Here are some interesting groundhog facts that you may not know:

A groundhog is another name for a woodchuck. The question may be, how much wood could a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood? The answer is around 700 pounds!

A groundhog grows up to 17 inches long and has a tail that is around five inches long. Groundhogs/woodchucks are mostly herbivores or plant eaters. They eat grass, seeds, leaves, flowers, fruit, eggs, and some insects.

Groundhogs are hunted by many ainals, including wolves, dogs, coyotes, bobcats, foxes, and humans. Groundhogs cannot move very quickly so their  best defense is to retreat into their burrows which are generally around 20 feet to 30 feet long. Their keen eyesight and hearing warn them that a predator is approaching.

Other than to predict the weather, groundhogs awaken from hibernation in early February to meet and get to know female groundhogs. They have platonic sleep overs, then the male goes back to sleep until March.

In March, the male will awaken for good and seek out his girlfriend. Later this year, there will be baby groundhogs running around.

Now you can impress your friends with ground hogs facts!!! Have a good day and expect six more weeks of winter, before spring officially arrives.
