Good news for scholarships and those who receive them at Texarkana College. At its quarterly meeting on May 13, the Texarkana College Foundation Board reviewed its financial report, which currently shows more than $2.4 million in donations for the fiscal year spanning September 2014-August 2015. These donations provide the financial foundation for Texarkana College’s new 2015 Presidential Scholarships, which are awarded to high-achieving high school graduates in the college’s service area. Recipients are able to attend Texarkana College tuition-free and each recipient is admitted to the TC honors college.

So far, the college has awarded scholarships to 94 students. At the meeting, students who benefitted from TC scholarships addressed the Foundation Board.

“After I graduated from Texas High School, I didn't think I was college material,” said Shavon Conkleton, a TC political science major. “Once I walked through the doors of TC, I changed my life.”

Tajia Little, a Texarkana College graduate who is currently attending Texas A&M-Texarkana received a scholarship from an anonymous donor to cover her schooling at TAMUT.

“I’ll be receiving my bachelor’s degree debt free, which will enable me to go on and receive my master’s degree,” Little said. “As a first-generation college student, I am setting the bar, not only for myself, but for my children and one day their children.”
