The weather on Saturday was "UGLY," but the Agent Barry Live United Bowl was anything but that.

Temperatures in the low to mid 40s with wind and driving rain is not the forecast that organizers would have drawn up for the Division II college football bowl game. Conditions were downright miserable.

However hats off to the numerous fans of S.A.U. and Texas A&M-Kingsville who did not let it dampen their spirit. Also, a nod to the many volunteers who worked in those conditions to continue on with the planned game and festivities.

It was a shame that the rain prevented the two universities outstanding bands and dance teams from performing, but kudos to "Voice" finalist Barrett Baber for performing during the halftime for the rain-soaked and chilled crowd.

Of course congratulations to the two teams who played a great game especially as bad as the elements were. Really, there were not that many turnovers, citing the conditions.

The turnover battle was won by Texas A&M-Kingsville, who also won the game by a 24-17 score. But both teams should be proud of their efforts not only here but all season long.

The United Way of Greater Texarkana will benefit from proceeds from the game and other bowl-related activities. It is too bad that the weather conditions kept the crowd down from could have been, which cuts into the proceeds for the United Way. But I'm sure they'll be happy with the results.

Here's hoping for better weather for the 5th Annual Agent Barry Live United Bowl that will be played in December 2017.

We can't end without saying congratulations to Bowl Chairman and Live United Bowl co-founder Allen Brown and all the committee and volunteers for another top notch bowl week. There are only two other Division II college bowl games in the country and we don't see how any is operated better than this one.
