Dogs get out of their yards, some runaway, others disappear and some are stolen. Often these dogs (and cats, pigs, horses, goats and chickens) wind up at the animal shelter. That was good news for one family recently but on the same day it was sad news for another family.

I take videos of the animals at our local shelter and give them all a little attention hoping someone will spot their dog or see a dog they would like to adopt. Sometimes the dogs seem like they are talking too! On this first video there were many dogs that tried to figure out what I was holding in my hand pointing at them, some even growled at it. The object was was my phone that I use to shoot videos. In this first video check out the big dog with the squeaky little voice at about 4 minutes and 50 seconds into the video. It really caught my attention because it was a pitbull type dog with a chihuahua yap.

That same dog's photo appeared in my Facebook news feed this morning. His owners were missing him since he had disappeared from their yard recently. Thankfully the dog was reunited with his owner. The next story doesn't have the same happy ending.

The little cream colored dog in this next video, laying on its side barely moving, was once a beloved pet of someone. The poor dog had been put to sleep at the shelter this morning because it was sick and couldn't get up. There are not enough funds to take every dog to the vet for care and there is no vet on staff at the shelter to examine these dogs when they come in. Very sad. His/her owners will probably never know what happened to their beloved pet. There wasn't any way to locate the owners because the dog did not have any identification when it got to the shelter.

This next video shows the dogs that have recently been picked up by animal control officers or recently surrendered by citizens. These are the 'Holding Pens' often referred to at HP kennels.

These are several videos taken of the dogs on Adoption Floor.

Anyone missing a pet should physically go to the shelter and go often to look for the pet. Calling the shelter is not enough. You must be there to put eyes on the dogs and cats to make sure it isn't your pet. Often times the description they owner provides does not fit what the pet looks like at the shelter. It is also very good advice to have your pet microchipped and register the chip with your current phone numbers as well as an emergency number. I found a dog that had a chip and the owners had given up on finding her and even listed the pet as deceased after not finding her for 10 months. She made it to my rescue and then made it back to her owners all because of a little microchip inserted under the skin.

My best advice to get your lost pet back: Please be sure to have your pets spayed and neutered, make sure they are microchipped and keep a collar on them too with your information securely on the collar. Also follow the many lost and found Facebook pages to help folks find their babies. All the details and links to those pages are in the story below:
