Can your dog get the coronavirus COVID-19? That was a question I bet most pet owners are asking themselves.

I guess we need to also ask if a dog or cat can spread the virus as well? The American Kennel Club has this to say about the coronavirus (COVID-19) and dogs:

Dogs can contract certain types of coronaviruses, such as the canine respiratory coronavirus, but this specific coronavirus, COVID-19, is believed to not be a threat to dogs.

The World Health Organization had this to say:

At present, there is no evidence that companion animals/pets such as dogs or cats can be infected with the novel coronavirus COVID-19.

So my next question was can your dog or cat get the flu? The answer is yes and no. your dog can catch the flu and there are reports, of cats catching it as well.  It's not the same strain of flu that attacks us, but it is a flu virus. On top of this, it is very contagious.

If your dog or cat is showing any flu-like symptoms take them to the vet immediately and if you are concerned your pet may get the flu, there is a flu shot for cats and dogs.
