Bowie County Sheriffs Office Warns of Latest Phone Scam
The Bowie County Sheriffs Office is warning area residents about the latest phone scam which is being perpetrated on unsuspecting people.
Residents have informed the sheriffs office that someone is calling from phone number (903) 949-3089 and claiming to be Deputy Gamble with the Bowie County Sheriffs Department. This is a scam. This thief is attempting to scam citizens by saying he is collecting money for alleged outstanding warrants.
The Bowie County Sheriffs office says they do not collect any fees over the telephone or internet. Authorities say if someone calls you claiming to be a deputy of this office to collect money, simply hang up on them.
Although these numbers appear to be local sometimes, most of these calls are actually coming from outside of the United States. The telephone numbers that appear to be local are simply being spoofed.
The Sheriffs Office urges you not to give these criminals any money, because if you do there is no way to reclaim it. Authorities are currently working to identify this perpetrator and he is aware of our ongoing investigation. However, they also warn that this has not completely curtailed his criminal activities.
