A gruesome story out of Texas, involving a North Carolina woman and her husband.

Amanda Perry Hayes has been convicted of tampering with evidence in a case involving the murder of her husband's ex-girlfriend and the abuse of her body.

The couple have previously been convicted of the murder that actually occurred seven years ago. Authorities say the murder occurred in Carolina and the couple dismembered the body and drove to Fort Bend County in Texas, to a relative of Grant Hayes.

According to a press release from prosecutors in Fort Bend County, the couple tried to destroy the remains by using muriatic acid on the body of Laura Ackerson. When that did not work prosecutors say they, "dumped Laura's body parts into the water with hopes that alligators would eat her remains."

That was not successful either. The jury sentenced her to 20 years in prison, consecutively to prison time she is serving in North Carolina. Her husband is serving a life term in Carolina.
