The third annual Draw Down for a Hand Up is Thursday, Sept. 24, at the Elks Lodge at 4701 Garland Ave. at 7PM. This fundraiser for the Randy Sams' Outreach Shelter helps make it possible to serve the hundreds of people each year who are in need of shelter. The magic of Roger Sheppard will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the event, which will feature food by Martin's Catering, music by the 2Pianos, an open bar and an amazing array of items for silent auction. In addition, at the end of the night someone will be leaving with a grand prize totaling $5,000.

Tickets are available for a donation of $100 and include dinner for two, drinks, entertainment and a chance to win $5,000. Only 150 of these tickets are available, meaning you will have a 1 in 150 chance of winning the grand prize. There are only a few left so call Jennifer at 903-280-2289.

Tickets are also available for $35 and include dinner for one, drinks and entertainment but no chance to win the grand prize.

The shelter makes a difference in so many lives. Twice in two years the shelter has had to add beds to help accommodate the number of people seeking shelter and even today the women's area is over capacity. However, the shelter is thrilled to report that in 2015 more than 140 people have moved from the shelter into permanent housing. The services provided are crucial. This fundraiser, and others like it, make it possible to provide a safe place to sleep for people who are without.
