The Texas A&M-Texarkana Eagles baseball team has begun their second year in existence under Head Coach Steven Jones.

The Eagles finished their inaugural year with a 33-20 record. Coach Jones was not really surprised by their early success, saying,"I felt like we exceeded most peoples expectations but not ours. It was a fun, and exciting season that I think raised a few eyebrows as to how good we were, and how we played the game."  Jones added, "Fan support and involvement from the community was awesome and I think there was great excitement in bringing back college baseball to Texarkana."

The Eagles have all of the starting pitchers returning to the team this year, as well as, 5 to 6 starters back among position players. Jones says most of the position players are underclassmen, but the pitching staff has several seniors on it.

Some familiar names from last year that return and should provide pitching for the team include, Neiko Yribe, Teddy Henderson, Alec Rios, and Jason Jones.

Also position players who should provide leadership for the Eagles include, First Baseman and DH, Cade Thomason, who led the team in homers last year. Sophomore Cole Beckham, who plays center field, currently leads the team this year in home runs. Another outfielder is senior transfer Cameron Frost, who is an exciting player to watch. Also noteworthy is gold glove winning second baseman Kolton Perfect.

Assistant coaches for Jones are, Pitching Coach Cruz Sedillo, Outfield Coach Reid Peavy, and Student Assistant Jacob Lamartiniere. Also, former major league player Tony McKnight is a volunteer assistant who helps mainly with pitching.

Coach Jones is appreciative of the support he has seen his team get, "Texarkana, Texas A&M-Texarkana, and the outlying community have been awesome in their support of us. We spend a lot of time with projects in the community and a lot of people have gotten to know our young men and with that, the support continues to grow."

Jones says the team has gotten off to a little bit of a slow start this season, and he attributes some of that to injuries and  the weather, and some to simply not playing the game well. He believes the team can be better in all facets of the game. Jones wants to see his team start doing the things they normally do, play good catch, execute their game offensively, and pitch, so they can be in good shape moving forward.

Jones does have a message for area baseball fans, "We have a lot of baseball left and a lot of home baseball left. If you haven't seen us, it is a very fan friendly, family friendly atmosphere that I would love for everyone interested to be involved in."

Texas A&M-Texarkana college baseball is good for Texarkana and good for some area players who would like to continue their playing career past the high school level.

We hope you will support the Eagles and get out to a game soon. A&M-Texarkana home games are played at George Dobson Field at Spring Lake Part in Texarkana, Texas.

Go Eagles!!!!
