The Pleasant Grove Hawks winning streak stands at 18 in a row heading into Fridays match-up against Atlanta.

Before we talk about the game against the Rabbits. Let's look back at last weeks come from behind win over Henderson.

The Hawks found themselves behind in the second half after some miscues. PG head football coach Josh Gibson looked at it from two perspectives. "On one hand, we've had a lot of turnovers and penalties that put us in a bad position. We have to play more disciplined football early in the games. On the other hand, we've shown great resiliency and belief to come from behind and win these ball games. I'm extremely proud of our guys for not giving up and finding a way to win these games."

Quarterback Ben Harmon had some big passes, but may have saved the day for the Hawks with some very important, very determined QB runs in the 4th quarter, when the Hawks needed a spark. Gibson believes he has the best QB in the state of Texas, and surely the hardest working one for sure. "On average last week, he stayed 2 hours a day AFTER practice to get extra work in. Not only is he driven, but he brings his teammates along with him. He's a tremendous leader. On Friday night when our team was struggling, Ben dropped the hammer and willed the game back to our advantage. His impact in the passing and running game was huge."

Those mistakes and miscues Gibson talked about earlier put the defense in some rough spots, but they held the Henderson offense in check most of the night. One thing that is helping them according to their coach is the great work being done in the secondary from people like Kamron Woods and Ryan Pickelman, and from line work from guys like big Landon Jackson. The defense has forced 4 interceptions in the first two games of the season.

The kicking game had another solid night. Gibson says the kicking game conversation starts with place-kicker Dillon Williams. "He's a true weapon for us, accurate and confident. He's made some big time FG's the last two weeks that have helped us seal both games. Reese Foster is on the best deep snappers in our area."

Now turning their attention the fleet-footed Atlanta Rabbits. Gibson says besides being very fast, they are very athletic as well. Just to note they had over 560 yards offense against Gilmer in Week 1. Even though they have lost both of the first two games, they have played state ranked teams, and are a very dangerous opponent according to Coach.

We asked Gibson what it would take to extend the Hawks winning streak to 19 games. He said," We can't beat ourselves. We will have to play a clean game We need to protect the football better, eliminate penalties, and not give up the BIG play. If we do that, we should be in good shape."

Winning breeds winning and the Hawks are continuing the momentum at the start of this season, from the unbeaten State Championship team from last year. This team may not have the physical size of last year's squad, but led by the size of the heart and competitiveness of their coach and Quarterback they are determined to reach their goals.

It's the shortest road game of the season for the Hawks, so look for a large crowd of Hawk supporters to fill the visitors side Friday night in Atlanta. It may not be a conference battle this year, but it will be every bit as exciting.

Good Luck to PG!!!!
